A lot of folks around Chattanooga have been asking me where TN House District 26 is, so they’ll know if they’re in it. Here’s my typical answer:
“Well, it stretches from North Chattanooga all the way north up Hixson Pike to the Rhea County line, and grabs everything on either side of it. It also hops across the river downtown and goes south down Market to around Main. And then it goes up Main and grabs a little bit of Jefferson Heights. Oh, and it also jumps across the lake, grabs a big subdivision in Harrison and sort of backs up into Avondale . . . Um, you’d better just look up your district.”
When you need a canoe to cross your legislative district, that’s some serious gerrymandering. Still, most people in this diverse district share basic concerns and values. We all want safe neighborhoods and good neighborhood schools. We all want to make a living wage in exchange for our hard work. We all want politicians to stay out of our personal lives.
Are you in District 26?
